historical notes Salomon was an art collector, banker, and philanthropist who married Helen Forbes Lewis of Rosshire, Scotland.

Salomon and his wife collected paintings, pastels, sculpture, tapestries and brocades, furniture, silver, ormulu, interior woodwork and marble, jewelry, fans, laces, miniatures and cabinet pieces.

Salomon's collection included Tiepolo frescoes, and "Italian primitives;" paintings by Bellini, Jacopo Palma, Baldovinetti, Piero Polaiuolo, Vincenzo Catena, Perugino, Bernardino Pintoricchio, Francesco Francia, Giovanni Battista Cima, Bernardino Luini, Bernardino del Conti, Bartolommeo Gatta, and Jacopo del Sellajo.

Salomon was a member of the Manhattan, City, New York, New York Yacht, City Midday, and Racquet and Tennis Clubs.
