historical notes Harry Bakwin was an art collector and pediatrician. He and his wife, Dr. Ruth Morris Bakwin (m. 1925), built an art collecting that included work by, among others, Van Gogh (Madame Ginoux, Sotheby’s $40 million), Matisse, Cézanne, Gauguin, Modigliani, and Picasso.

The Bakwin’s lent work to benefit exhibition with both the Duveen Brothers (Renoir, 1941, benefiting French Relief) and Wildenstein (Renoir, 1950).
