historical notes John Weber was a New York City Art dealer. He began his career working with the Virginia Dwan Gallery in Los Angeles. After the Los Angeles gallery closed in 1968, he then became the director of the Dwan Gallery in New York. He opened his own gallery in 1971 in SOHO at 420 West Broadway (the first gallery to open at this location). His gallery moved to Chelsea before closing 2000.

Weber was married five times and had five children: two sons, Anson Weber-Streitparth of Berlin and John A. C. Weber of Santa Fe, N.M.and Montauk, N.Y.; and three daughters, Ms. Friedman, Paolina Weber of New York and Sibilla Weber-Veronese of Milan.
