historical notes Oil executive, art collector and philanthropist made many gifts to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Among the paintings that Wrightsman gave to the museum were works by El Greco, Vermeer, Ruben's, Georges de La Tour, Jacques-Louis David and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.

The Wrightsman collection included French 18th-century decorative arts such as, chairs, sofas, tables, cabinets, desks, porcelain, carpets, snuffboxes, clocks, candelabra, chimney furniture, lamps, mirrors, urns and even dog kennels.(nytimes.com, 11/07/2007)
