historical notes The sculptor Michael Brenner (1885-1969) and painter Robert J. Coady opened The Washington Square Gallery in 1914 at 47 Washington Square South. Both having made strong connections in Paris the gallery exhibited artists from Kahnweiler's Gallery.

In 1917, as Michael Brenner stepped down and the gallery became the Coady Gallery. Requiring more space it moved to 489 Fifth Avenue.

After the death of Robert J. Coady in 1921, the gallery closed.
