CommentaryJan Jacobsz. Lons, born in 1567, was found drowned by Arent Bouwers Spijker (cited in the TEXT of R 594) in the N.Z. Achterburchwal on 16 March 1608. He was the son of Jacob Jansz. Lons or Lonsvaerder (freighter to London), port master in 1578, who died of a wound he suffered on 13 November 1581. His mother was Wijburch Claes Gaeff, the daughter of Claes Claesz. Gaeff (cited in the NOTES to R 22127 of Montias2). She remarried Jan Karstensz., who was indeed the stepfather of the children. Jan Jacobsz. married Neeltge Croon of INVNO 553 in December 1600 (Elias, Vroedschap pp. 153-4). Among the goods left by Jan Jacobsz. Lons were various items of tinsmith equipment.
