Buyer FamilyHem, Arent (Aernout) (Hermansz.) (van der)
Buyer NotesThe buyer seems to be identical with Arent Hermansz. Hem, who became Jonker Arnold van der Hem, Ridder, Heer van Nedersteyn, Corl en Hilteprant, 1586-1656. In 1612, he lived op den Dam in Weesp. He was raised to the Ridderschap by Ferdinand II in 1620 (Elias, Vroedschap, p. 6). On 14 July 1611, Arent Hermansz. Hem, 25 years old, living op de Dam, assisted by his mother Maritgen Arents, was betrothed to Margaretha Reyersdr. Vos (DTB 666/294). She lived from 1593 to 1638. He was living on the Heregracht in 1631, when he paid a tax of 175 f. (Kohier, fol. 88, p. 21). He and his wife Margaretha Vos were portrayed about 1620 by Cornelis van der Voort (Amsterdammers geportretteerd; Kopstukken 1600-1800 (N. Middelkop ed.), Exh. Cat. 2002/2003,, p. 49). Arent Hermansz. Hem was the brother of Ysbrant Hermansz. Hem of R 28963. The family was Roman Catholic. On 27 May 1638, Aernout van der Hem named Jan Jansz. Cleerbesem de jonge (cited in the NOTES to R 21322) to represent him in Utrecht to collect an obligation due to him by Jacques Asch van Wyck (NA 1186, fol.22, Not. J. de Vos).
