Art collector, philanthropist and investment banker (Lazard, Freres and Company), Meyer was a trustee of New York University, Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, Mount Sinai Medial Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Meyer’s art collection included work by Pissarro, Cézanne, Degas, Monet, Chagall, Picasso, sculptures, and Louis XIV furniture. In addition to fine and decorative art Meyer collected original music scores. Following his death, the Metropolitan Museum of Art acquired his collection of 19th century European art. In 1922, he married the former Bella Lehman, no relation to the Lehman’s of Lehman Brothers. |
