history Charles B. Wrightsman was an oil executive and, together with his wife, Jayne Wrightsman (1919–2019), collected art and made many gifts to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Wrightsmans were patrons of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They gave the museum paintings by artists such as, among others, Claude Monet, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Vermeer, and enough French 18th- and 19th-century decorative arts to fill thirteen period rooms housed at the museum.
