David Grainger Whitney was an art collector, curator, and the long-time companion of architect Philip Johnson. Whitney organized exhibitions of Jasper Johns, Cy Twombly, Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Andy Warhol, Michael Heizer, Julian Schnabel, and David Salle.
