history Jory Shapiro was an art collector and philanthropist. She and her husband, Joseph Randall Shapiro (1904–1996) formed an art collection that while known for works of art by Surrealists, it also included work by Abstract Expressionists and others.

The Shapiro collection included work by, among others, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Rene Magritte, Victor Brauner, Marc Chagall, Paul Delvaux, Paul Klee, Matta, Joan Miro, Yves Tanguy, Francis Chapin, Salvador Dali, Vasily Kandinsky, Arshile Gorky, and Jean Dubuffet.

The Shapiros gave works of art from their collection to the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, Rosary and Spertus Colleges in Chicago and the University of Notre Dame.
