Charles Allen Munn was an art collector and patron. The paintings in Munn's collection were predominantly by portrait painters, such as, Smibert, J. S. Copley, Gilbert Stuart, Charles Wilson and Rembrandt Peale, with some miniatures by James Sharples. In addition to paintings, Munn's collection consisted of prints and decorative arts. Munn bequeathed to the New York Historical Society eight medallions and nineteen busts and statuettes of George Washington in bronze, porcelain and marble. Munn bequeathed his collection of American prints to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. |
