Art collector, patron, philanthropist, businessman, founder and longtime chairman of the Consolidated Foods Corporation or what was known as Sara Lee. He gifted more than 600 pieces of pre-Columbian works to the Metropolitan Museum. The Cummings' collection included work by Giacometti and Manzu and paintings by Matisse, Gauguin and Degas. Cummings was married twice. His first wife was Ruth Lillian Kellert, whom he married in 1919. She died in 1952. He married Miss Joanne Toor in 1959. The marriage ended in divorce in 1976. |
