history |
Fred Richman is a collector, businessman and New York textile merchant. Fred and Rita Richman have collected Greek, Roman and Middle Eastern antiquities in addition to work from Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Indian oceans, manuscripts, jewelry and architectural fragments. The High Museum has 240 pieces of African Art from The Richman Family Foundation (presented in 1972) and he and his wife, Rita Richman, are supporters of the High Museum since the 60's. In 2001, the Richman's endowed the Museum with funds to create an African Art department, and the Richman Family Foundation Curator of African Art was appointed that year. The Richmans made their entire African art collection a promised gift to the High. |
