history Mary Emery, nee Mary Mulhenberg Hopkins, was a philanthropist and art collector who was married in 1866, to the industrialist and real estate developer Thomas J. Emery (1830-1906).

She collected works from European Masters which were then later donated to the Cincinnati Museum of Art. The collection included work by, among others, Jean-Auguste-Dominque Ingres, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Thomas Gainsborough, Frans Hals, Tiziano Vecellio (purchased as Titian), Andrea Mantegna, Jean-François Millet, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Gerard ter Borch, Francisco Goya, Constant Troyon, Julien Dupré, and Alexandre Calame.

Emery provided $7,000,000 for the development of the community of Mariemont. Other philanthropic interests included the Episcopal Church and medical, educational and other programs benefiting children.
