history Art collector and architect.

Gordon Bunshaft, (1902-1990), was a modernist architect who worked in New York City for the influential architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill from 1937-1979. In 1949 he was made a partner.

Bunshaft's impact on American architecture is mainly in the form of the corporate headquarters building. In 1952 Bunshaft completed the Lever House, which was one of the first glass curtain-wall skyscrapers. Bunshaft received many awards including the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the American Institute of Architect's Medal of Honor and the National Institute of Arts and Letter's first prize in architecture (Arnold W. Brunner Memorial).

Bunshaft was also a passionate art collector, maintaining long-standing friendships with such notable artists as Henry Moore and Jean Dubuffet, and serving as a member of the Fine Arts Commission in Washington, D.C. and as a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
