history Converse was a collector, financier and founder of Bankers Trust company.

Among nineteenth century paintings and works by Van Dyck and Gainsborough, Converse collected Chinese, Persian, Japanese and Italian ceramics, mortuary glass, jades and other hard stones.

He bequest his collection to Harvard University and the Metropolitan Art Museum.

He was married twice, his first wife, Jessie MacDonough Green of New York, 1879, and she died in 1914; his second wife was Ethith Dushee.
