history Cyrus J Lawrence was a collector, financier, banker, and head of the banking firm Cyrus J Lawrence & Son.

He married Emily A Hoe in 1856. He was a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Museum of Natural History, American Archaeological Society, Bibliographical Society of Boston, the New York and Baltimore Municipal Art Societies, and the Grolier and Union League Clubs.

His collection was sold in an auction held by the American Art Galleries in, New York, 1910. The collection included work by Monet, Degas, Sisley, Boudin, Raffaeli, Cassat, Barye and Daumier.
