history Miller was an art and book collector, banker, capitalist, and brother-in-law of Jay Gould.
Under the management of Samuel Marx, Miller’s collection was auctioned in April of 1916, at the Hotel Savoy, New York, NY.

His collection included painting of modern schools, principally French and Dutch, jades, rock crystal, ivories, miniatures, oriental porcelains, European ceramics, miniatures, silverware, faience, Hispano-Moresque plates and other artistic property.

The collection included work by French artists Henri Fantin-Latour, Monticelli, Bourguerau, Marie Dieterlee, Lenoir, G. David Millet, Dupiny, Ferdinand Roybet and the military artists Frolleron, Berne-Bellecour and Jan van Chelminski. Included from the Dutch modern school were works by Blommers, Jacob Kever, Tromp, De Bock, and Evert Pieters.

The collection of American paintings included work by by Ridgeway Knight, Charles Caryl Coleman, George H Boughton, J. G Brown, Louis Paul Dessar, James M Hart and Humphrey Moore.
