Louis Durr was a German born gold and silver refiner, assayer and art collector. Louis Durr's art collection included European paintings, concentration of works from the Dutch school, and American paintings. The collection comprised of, among others, attributions to Titian, Paul Veronese, Hobbema, Ostade, Brawer, Mabuse, Rembrandt, Teniers, Vandyke and Murrillo. As a member of the New York Historical Society many of Durr's European paintings went to the New York Historical Society and all but seven have been deaccessioned.
