history |
Offerman was an art collector, sugar refinery heir, and dog fancier (terrier expert). He was married to Margaret K. Offerman. Offerman collected European arms and armor, sculpture, paintings, early American furniture, tapestries, etchings, engravings and mezzotints (additionally he had an immense stamp collection). Some of Offerman's Armor collection is held by the Metropolitan Art Museum (purchased at auction and donated to the MET by Offerman's sister Anna T. Schmidt). |
