John Langeloth Loeb was a banker (founder of the New York banking and brokerage firm Carl M. Loeb and Company, 1931) and art collector. Loeb with his wife, Frances Lehman Loeb (1906-1996), collected French Impressionist paintings and works of art from the collection sold in an auction for $92.7 million via Christie's in 1997. The Loeb collection included work by, among others, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Cezanne, Monet, Manet, Picasso, and Renoir. The Loebs had five children: Judith L. Chiara of Manhattan and Purchase, John L. Loeb Jr. of Manhattan and Purchase, Ann Loeb Bronfman of Washington, Arthur Lehman Loeb of Manhattan and Deborah Loeb Brice of London. |
