history Frances “Peter” Lehman Loeb was an art collector, philanthropist, trustee of Vassar and Cornell University and an overseer of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

Loeb came from a family of collectors and inherited French Impressionist work from her Mother, Adele Lewisohn Lehman (1882-1965). She and her husband, John Laneloth Loeb (1902-1996, m. 1926), built on these gifts and were known for their collection of French Impressionist's.
The Loeb collection included work by, among others, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Cezanne, Monet, Manet, Picasso, and Renoir.

Despite Loeb’s museums donations, including a van Gogh and two Picassos to the Metropolitan Museum, much of the collection was sold via Christie’s New York auction house in 1997.
The sale totaled $92.7 million with Toulouse-Lautrec's ''Seated Dancer in Pink Stockings'' (1890), selling for $14.5 million; Cezanne’s ''Madame Cezanne Seated in a Yellow Chair'' (1888-1890), selling for $23.1 million; Monet's ''Mauve Iris'' (1914-1917), selling for $3.8 million; Manet’s ''Manet With His Palette'' (1878), selling for $18.7 million; Cezanne’s ''View From L'Estaque,'' (1883-85), selling for $12.6 million; Cezanne’s ''Uncle Dominique,'' (circa 1866), selling for $2.9 million; a Gauguin ''Still Life With Decorative Pumpkins'' (1889), selling for $3.4 million; and Renoir's ''Standing Bather,'' selling for $4.2 million.

The Loebs had five children: Judith L. Chiara of Manhattan and Purchase, John L. Loeb Jr. of Manhattan and Purchase, Ann Loeb Bronfman of Washington, Arthur Lehman Loeb of Manhattan and Deborah Loeb Brice of London.
