Paul Singer was an Asian art collector and psychiatrist. Over 5,000 Chinese art objects from Singer’s collection were left to the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution. In 1957, Singer met Arthur M. Sackler (1903-1987), Sackler quickly valued Dr. Singer's expertise and soon after they met, he began to give Dr. Singer money on a quarterly basis to buy art. The funds came with the only stipulation that when Dr. Singer died, his art would go to either to a Sackler-named museum or to the Arthur M. Sackler foundation. |
