Everett C. McNear was a Chicago art collector, painter, designer, printmaker, and trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago. McNear and his wife were benefactors of what was the then the Notre Dame Art Gallery (now the Snite Art Museum); they served on the advisory panel and he did the initial gallery installation design for the Snite Museum. McNear donated hundreds of his own works to the Snite Museum, plus pieces from his collection including works by Alexander Archipenko, Cameron Booth, and Edmund D. Kinzinger, in addition to African sculptures; Flemish, Spanish, and Italian manuscript pages; Persian paintings; and Peruvian textiles. He was a member of the Arts Club of Chicago, and won prizes at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Directors Club of Chicago, the Art Guild of Chicago, and the Illinois State Museum. He founded an association for professional graphic designers, and did exhibitions graphics for the Art Institute of Chicago. Everett’s mosaics can be seen at the Skiles School in Evanston, IL, and a mural at the Perkins and Wills Partnership in Chicago. |
