Collector of ancient and medieval art, lawyer, and self-taught architect. Pitcairn's wife was Mildred Glenn Pitcairn (1979). Pitcairn began collecting antiquities in the 1910s to inspire craftsmen who were building the dramatic Gothic- and Romanesque-style Bryn Athyn Cathedral. Collections include ancient Egyptian, Near East, Greek, Roman, medieval Christian, Islamic, Asian, Native American and New Church art.
