history Herschel Vespasian Jones was a print and book collector, patron, publisher, editor, journalist and philanthropist.

In 1916, After Jones, a trustee of the museum, left his collection of 5,000 prints the Minneapolis Institute of Arts the Department of Prints and Drawings was established.

The Prints included woodcuts, engravings, etchings, lithographs, screenprints, drawings, watercolors, pastels, monotypes, multiples, artists' books, and rare books from early fourteenth-century illuminated manuscripts to contemporary works on paper.
