Originally established in Dusseldorf in 1913 by Alfred Flechtheim, the gallery eventually had galleries in Berlin, Cologne and Frankfurt. Flechtheim Gallery represented German artists, including George Grosz, but specialized in paintings by contemporary French painters. Curt Valentin worked for Flechtheim in Berlin after 1927, organizing exhibitions and co-editing the gallery’s magazine Omnibus. At his death, Flechtheim left his gallery records and personal library (now destroyed) with Fred Mayor, founder of Mayor Gallery. |
