Dutch art historian and professor of art history at the Rijksuniversiteit, Utrecht, who concentrated on Dutch and Flemish art, with a particular interest in Van Gogh, Rubens and Rembrandt. Stichter van het Nederlands Kunsthistorisch Jaarboek. Hij zat o.a. in het bestuur van Stichting Custodia en het Institut Néerlandais te Parijs en in het dagelijks bestuur van de Vereniging Rembrandt. |
