history Frederick William Gookin was an art collector, banker (Northwestern National Bank of Chicago), curator of the Clarence S. Buckingham Collection of Japanese prints at the Art Institute of Chicago, Japanese art expert and author.

Gookin sold his collection of Japanese prints at the Walpole Galleries in 1921.

Gookin was a member of the University, Caxton, Chemists (New York) and the Chicago Literary clubs.
