Margaret Lincoln Barber was a collector of furniture, paintings, manuscripts, and objets d'art. Through Professor William K Boyd, works from Barber's collection were on long-term loan to Duke's Women's College Library, 1931-1956. In the 1950s, after her death and the loan expired, her collections were broken up, with the Mexican paintings going to William Wood College in Missouri. They were bought by the Davenport Museum in 1992 to add to its Mexican art collection. Some of the items were purchased for Duke's permanent collection. In addition to oil paintings from Mexico and primitive American portraits, Barber owned American, European, and Chinese decorative arts. |
