Delia Spencer Caton Field was an art collector and the second wife of retailer Marshall Field (1835-1906) who she married in 1905. Field was the daughter of Franklin J. Spencer, one of the founders of the Hibbard, Spencer, Barlett Company, wholesalers in Chicago. Delia was married twice; her first marriage was to the Chicago lawyer, sportsman, and clubman Arthur Caton (d. 1904). Fields collection was varied and included paintings attributed to Jules César Denis Van Loo, Giovanni della Robbia, Paulus Moreelse, Cornelis Jonson van Ceulen, the Elder, Walter Gay, Jean Baptiste Santerre, Godaert Kamper and Bartolomé Esteban. Additionally, her collection included 18th Century Porcelains. Delia’s estate, including art collection, was left to her niece Catherine Eddy Beveridge (1881–1970). |
