history Maitland Fuller Griggs was a lawyer, art collector and Yale donor.

Griggs served on The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Purchasing and Greek and Roman Art Committees, a principal benefactor of the Yale Gallery for Fine Arts and a trustee of The Frick Collection.

Maitland owned work by, among others, Lippo Memmi, Michelino da Besozzo, Maso di Banco, Sassetta (Stefano di Giovanni), Workshop of Simone Martini, Bernardo Daddi, Liberale da Verona (Liberale di Jacomo), Workshop of Fra Filippo Lippi, Fra Angelico (Guido di Pietro) [work attributed to Pesellino when purchased by Griggs], Alessandro Sanquirico, della Robbia, John Singleton Copley, and Li Yin.

Griggs married Miss Carolyn Coles Lee in 1898 and they had three children: Dorothy Maitland Griggs, Maitland Lee Griggs and Northam Lee Griggs.
