James Harvey Stebbins was a collector of French modern paintings and chemist. His collection was sold an auction via American Art Galleries in New York City, 1889 ($160,585). According to The Art Treasures of America, Stebbins owned "Molière Breakfasting With Louis XIV" by J. L. Gérôme, "Between Love and Riches" by W. A. Bouguereau, and works by J. Agrassot, L.
