Piero Vito Tozzi (sometimes referred to as Captain Pietro Tozzi) was an antiquarian, artist, restorer, professor and art dealer who had galleries in New York and Florence. Tozzi specialized in Italian decorative arts, sculpture and paintings. Tozzi’s collection included, among other items, a bronze antique after the Hercules Slaying Lichas from the 19th/20th century, Fra Filippo Lippi’s The Annunciation, Luca Signorelli’s The Marriage of the Virgin, Giovanni Francesco Susini’s The Young Saint John the Baptist, and Alberto Passini’s Market Scene in Constantinople. Tozzi sold work to individual collectors, galleries and institutions including, among others, the Schaeffer Galleries, Samuel Kress, the Art Institute of Chicago, Cincinnati Art Museum, Walters Art Museum and the Metropolitan Art Museum.
