Lillian Martha Henkel Haass was an art collector and patron. Haass served as trustee and president of the Detroit Museum of Art Founders Society, was active with the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (president 1933-1938), was a member of the board of the Detroit Artist’s Market, and an active supporter of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She was married to Julius H. Haass (1856-1931)---a prominent banker and donor of art treasures. The collection included Egyptian, Iranian, African (Nazca South Coast, 19th Century Baule), and late 19th/early 20th Century Balinese artwork. Also, decorative arts such as a Chantilly Manufactory Tureen, Omar Ramsden silver ewer, and stained glass by the Master of the Saint Alexis Roundels. |
