Joann G. Phillips, née Kocher, is an art collector, patron, and is involved in the arts community in Santa Fe, Los Angeles, and New York. Together with her husband, Gifford Phillips (1918–2013), she formed an art collection that included work by, among others, Richard Diebenkorn, Henri Matisse, Willem d Kooning, Channing Peake, Helen Frankenthaler, Pablo Picasso, Robert Motherwell, Milton Avery, Henry Moore, Claire Falkenstien, Oscar Kokoschka, Arshile Gorky, Emerson Woelffer, Ad Reinhardt, and Lee Mullican. The Giffords were also involved in the preservation of Pueblo Indian art. She is a member of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art (served as its Chairman from 1986-1991), trustee of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and a former member of the Fine Arts Committee of the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe. |
