history Robert Graves was a Brooklyn wallpaper manufacturer (Robert Graves & Company), member of The Wall-Paper Trust, and art collector.

Graves collected Old master and modern paintings, together with porcelains, jades, Japanese swords, ivory carvings, screens, cabinets, bronzes and lacquers. His collection was sold via the American Art Association on February 9 and 15, 1887, reaping $146,863.50.

Graves’ summer home, where he kept much of his art collection, was located in New York between Tarrytown and Irvington-on-the-Hudson.
