Richard Austin Robertson was a businessman (member of the American Art Association, AAA), manufacturer, and art collector. After his death in 1892 the AAA was forced to sell its collection in order to settle Robertson's estate. The works of art in the 1892 auction sold for $451,171.25, and included paintings, bronzes, oriental porcelains, lacquers, and metal work. He was married to Mary B. Robertson, nee Gould, they had two children: R. Austin Robertson, Jr. , 1892-1972 (Superintendent and manager of the Builders’ Iron Foundry, Providence, RI) and Nathanial Gould Robertson, 1864-1933 (Superintendent of the Maryland Steel Works at Sparrow’s Point, MD). Robertson was a member of the Reform Club. |
