history |
Adelson Galleries is distinguished for its expertise in the fields of American Impressionism, Realism and Modernism. The gallery was originally founded in Boston in 1964 by Warren Adelson and was reestablished in New York City in 1990. The gallery is noted for its monographic exhibitions of important 19th and 20th century artists including George Bellows, Mary Cassatt, Frederick Church, Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, John Singer Sargent, and Andrew Wyeth. Contemporary artists include Andrew Stevovich and Jamie Wyeth. In addition to its extensive presentations of American art ranging from the mid-19th century to contemporary art, the gallery has hosted numerous exhibitions organized by internationally recognized dealers, notably Flavia Ormond (Old Master Drawings) and Marc Rosen and Susan Pinsky (prints of Cassatt, Renoir, and other masters of the print medium). Adelson Galleries has produced a wide range of exhibition catalogues and has also generated separate volumes in association with Abbeville Press and Princeton University Press. In addition, the gallery supports The Mary Cassatt Catalogue Raisonne (which will be published on-line) as well as The John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonnés, published by Yale University Press (Vols. I-IV, with further volumes to follow). *the above text was supplied by the gallery. |
