history Charles Graff was a Philadelphia art collector, merchant, member of Philadelphia Savings Fund Society (1821-1825) and both served on the board of and bequeated art to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

A patron of Raphael Peale, Graff collected Old Masters and regional Pennsylvania artists. Graff owned work by, among others, Louis Lemet, Thomas Birch, Raphael Peale, Thomas Cole. He donated Chinese wooden bellows, a dagger and other curiosities form Owyhee and Java provinces to the Philadelphia Museum in 1807.

Graff’s estate sale was held at in 1856 at M. Thomas & Sons Auctioneers.
