John Stoneacre Ellis was a collector of arms and armor. In 1896, his collection was gifted to the Metropolitan Art Museum. The gift contained 160 pieces of arms and armor containing as well as two tapestries. Ellis married Julia Livingston Waterbury (1822–1914) in 1862, they had one son, Augustus Van Horne Ellis (1865–1939). |
