Works of art from his collection were sold at an auction held at the Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc. on Dec. 6, 1940. The sale included 25 paintings (Italian, Flemish, and British Schools), Gothic tapestries, imperial jade vase, textiles, Chines porcelains, Fereghan palace carpet, and antique walnut and oak furniture.

Paintings in the collection were attributed to, among others, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Andrea del Sorto, Sir Thomas Lawrence, Peter Kaltenhof, Joos Van Cleeve, Bernard Van Orley, and Sir Anthony Van Dyck.

Aldred was married to Janet May (nee Rennex) Aldred (1880-1948) and had one daughter, Mrs. Jane Aldred Andre Warburton (1916-1988). His Long Island estate, known as Ormston, is now used as a monastery.
