history The son of a Parisian music publisher, Edward "Edouard" Brandus was a private art dealer who maintained offices in both New York City and Paris.

Brandus began his career as a private art dealer/agent in partnership with the Swiss art connoisseur William Christian Michel (1860–1918).

Jules S. Bache served as a sponsor for his U. S. passport in 1918. Brandus worked with Charles Sedelmeyer’s son-in-law, Paul Mersch. His wife was Berthe Brandus, 1861-, and daughter was Yvonne Brandus Roudie, 1887-.
