history Francis Fleury Prentiss was the second husband of Cleveland's benefactress, Elisabeth Severance Allen Prentiss (1865–1944), together they formed an art collection.

The bulk of the collection was later left to The Cleveland Art Museum and included paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and most notably tapestries.
