Jane F. Nathanson is a philanthropist and licensed marriage, family, and child therapist. She was born and raised in New York and has a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. Her husband, Marc, is the chairman of the venture capital firm Mapleton Investments and the founder and former owner of Falcon Cable. Until 1976, the couple lived in New York, where they were staples of the Downtown scene, for Los Angeles. At the time there was no museum exhibiting contemporary art. Along with Marcia Weisman, Eli Broad, and other contemporary art collectors, she took part in the found the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in 1979; she chaired the board for the first few years of its existence. Jane’s focus has since shifted across town to LACMA, where she is now a board member and to which she and her husband donated $50 million on its 50th birthday. The Nathanson collection boasts of 400 works by a wide array of modern and contemporary artists: Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Urs Fischer, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Franz Kline, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, Cathy Opie, William de Kooning, Kara Walker, John Chamberlain, Parker Ito, Alexander Calder, Anish Kapoor, Cindy Sherman, Dough Aitken, and Barbara Kruger, among others. They are particularly active at Art Basel Miami. |
