Richmond's collection of art from both the Barbizon and modern French schools sold via the American Art Galleries, in 1899. According to The Art Treasures of America, Richmond owned works by C. Becker, A. Bierstadt, J. Cermak, P. J. Clays, J. B. C. Corot, N. Diaz, R. Epp, G. Jacquet, H. Leroux, G. Max, H. Merle, E. Niczky, A. Piot, A. Schreyer, C. Troyon, E. Verboekhoven, P. Viry, A. Wahlberg, and F. Ziem. President of the RI Tramway, he organized the Providence Cable Tramway Company, which aimed to find a way to transport residents up and down the hill by employing a cable system. Richmond and his supporters studied cable systems in Alleghany, Pa., and Omaha, Neb. They had brought in engineers to design the ``road.'' And they rallied city and state officials to endorse the plan. |
