Abraham Martling Cozzens was an art collector, patron, president of the American Art Union, and New York merchant. Cozzens' collection included work by Asher Brown Durand, Emanual Leutze, Cozzens' collection was sold by Leavitt, Strebeigh & Co. at an auction held at the Clinton Hall Art Galleries and Book Sale Rooms, John H. Austen, auctioneer, Friday evening, May 22, 1868. Cozzens is discussed in Frederick Baekeland's "Collectors of American Painting, 1813-1913," American Art Review, 3, Nov.-Dec. 1976. Lent work to The Universal Exhibition held in Paris, 1867. |
