history J. “Jeff” Frederick Byers III was an art collector, businessman (an owner of Two Trees), trustee of the Museum of Modern Art, St. Bernard's School in New York, a member of the governing board of the Yale Art Gallery (Chairman 1971 and 1976), and the financial backer of Bykert Gallery (1966 to 1975).

Byers owned work by, among others, Larry Poons, Mark Rothko, Chuck Close, Agnes Martin, Brice Marden, David Melrose, and Alan Saret.

In 1962 Byers married Hilary Paley (now Hilary Paley Califano), the daughter of William S. Paley, founder and chairman of CBS Inc., and Dorothy Hirshon. Byers had two Children Brooke Alison and John Frederic, IV.

Byers’ was a member of The Brook Club, Links Club, and the National Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island and the River Club in New York City.
