James "Jimmy" Henri Ricau was an artist and a collector of American sculpture and paintings. Ricau owned sculptures by Hiram Powers, Chauncey B. Ives, Joseph Mozier, William Henry Rinehart, Thomas Crawford, and Randolph Rogers, it also includes examples by George Grey Barnard, Harriet Hosmer, Frederick MacMonnies, Larkin Mead, Erastus Dow Palmer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Emma Stebbins, William Wetmore Story, and others. He owned paintings by, among others, John F. Francis (1808-1886), Rembrandt Peale (1778–1860), Raphaelle Peale (1774 – 1825), George Henry Hall (1825-1913), John F. Francis (1808-1886),Benjamin West (1738 – 1820), Elihu Vedder (1836-1923), and George Cochran Lambdin (1830 - 1896). In 1883, The Chrysler Museum secured 70 American Neoclassical sculptures from James H. Ricau’s collection. The Richard York Gallery, c1993, exhibited Ricau’s collection of American paintings. |
